In 2003 Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, unexpectedly made the decision to dismiss his son Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi as the Crown Prince. The removal of Sheikh Saud’s half-brother from office was due to his hostility towards the invasion of Iraq led by the United States’ military. His political opinions put him at odds with the UAE Supreme Council’s political leadership.
