Getting Started with Acrylic and Oil Paints.

When painting with acrylics, you will find dozens of like minded artists who have a strong background in acrylic paint. One of this medium’s main benefits is how fast and easy it is. In turn making beautiful pieces with a quick drying time!

There are many guides and tutorials online which demonstrate the use of the acrylic medium for all skill levels from beginner to advanced and benefit from over 50 years of acrylic painting. From these, you will learn how to become an acrylic artist by painting on canvas by watching several realist and abstract artists who guide you through the process of abstract art creation. You will also learn how to mix paint, work with dry brushes and much more.

There are so many resources where you learn to paint!

Some themes include galaxies, skies, sunsets, lakes and landscapes with acrylic paint, including blending for gradient effects in the background. Painting through such tutorials will take you through the process of painting a simple tree and the fan brush step to painting trees. Afterwards, you can put the acrylic painting techniques from this article into practice and use a palette knife.

If you are new to acrylic painting or just want to improve your technique. Definitely check out youTube tutorials from talented artists such as Emily Makey Art and Emma WTJ. For beginners who want to learn how to paint with gouache or acrylic paint, this is the right thing to do.

Every budding artist has heard of Bob Ross…

If you love Bob Ross and don’t want to use oil paint, acrylic tutorials will show you how to recreate a very similar style. This is an acrylic painting of a sunset over a lake, painted with acrylic paint with a single brush.

Acrylic paint can be modified to create transparent effects and unique textures. It is possible to mix acrylic paint with acrylic emulsion in the home. This allows a wide range of colours and textures and a variety of colour combinations. Thus providing the painter with a wide colour palette.

The artist must follow a process in which more medium must be applied to each layer to avoid cracks. The longer it dries between layers, the longer you have to wait until you can continue painting.

The unique features of painting mean practice practice practice…

When painting with acrylic paint, at the end of the session, you have to use a brush and clean it with warm water, while oil paint needs a certain type of acetone to get the oil off the brush. With acrylic paints you want to use a variety of brushes, small and large, to vary your technique.

Drying oil paints is a long process, so that a final application of the paint is recommended after the painting has dried for several months. The colour of an acrylic paint can be washed with water and is water based like watercolours. However, unlike watercolours, the wash is not hydratable after drying and can cause damage to your painting.

Acrylic paints are known for their versatility.

Typically we want to keep them as close to their natural colour as possible. The technique and surface you want to use will determine the consistency of the acrylic paint that is best for you. You have to be able to control the colour, so it’s important to figure out what kind of consistency works best.

Remember that most acrylic paints are available in a range of viscosity and body.

Which is better, Acrylic or Oil?

Although water-based acrylic paint is produced, oil paint is called oil paint because of its base. Acrylic paints  dry quickly, making it easy to apply thick paint and layer them in different ways. Next time try a sponge as opposed to a paintbrush. Wetting acrylic paint can be easily removed with a brush and skin, while oil paintings require the use of acetone.
